The Pub

City Arms Pub

Since the days of servicing the Quay, surrounded by butchers, the Cattle Market and Slaughterhouse, the City Arms has changed massively
It has changed its appearance as well as its name over the last 170 years and has always stood on the corner of Quay Street. However, it has expanded over the years to take over next door (number 10). The 1935 picture below shows the Labour Club which became a part of the larger City Arms

Back in the 19th century, the Cardiff Boat public house stood next door and there are still traces of those times

The Front Bar

The view out to Quay Street from the front bar still shows the Brains emblems. Brains Brewery took over many of the centre pubs when they took over the Brewery in Caroline Street in 1882 and only recently leased most of their properties to Marstons.  You can also see the Cardiff Rugby Sponsorship sign about the windows. Brains also have an impressive Dragon sitting on top of the pub and overlooking Quay Street Brains took over (Logo on roof)

The Front Bar alcove where several of the Regulars sit also houses an interesting mirror dated 1850
Looking from the Alcove towards the quiet area towards the back, you can see the entrance to the upstairs living quarters behind the TV and Jukebox
To the right lies the front bar showing an array of beers (and the present landlord, Mark)
Behind the bar lies something from the past, an old cellar entrance that is still in use

The Back Bar

The Back Bar is reached from either the Front Bar or the road, where you pass this great impressive window. The Welsh identity is clear from the back door window to the old Football programme memorabilia

Upstairs

Upstairs from the outside is reached through this stairwell. The Stairwell now leads to the Caffi Cymru, a new venture that serves food with a Welsh theme and also doubles as a Function room. A cosy space with great views over the Principality Stadium
