The History of the City Arms

 

The City Arms stands on the corner of Womanby Street and Quay Street in the centre of Cardiff, directly opposite the Principality Stadium and the Cardiff Arms Park. For a long time, it was a Brain’s pub also serving numerous guest ales, eventually taken over by Marstons in the 2020s

The Landlords

Since the 1960s, there have been several Landlords and landladies who have kindly given their memories to this website

The Characters

Over the years numerous characters regularly visited the City Arms. They included the rugby players, footballers, boxers, musicians and the media. Some are captured in the pictures and memorabilia on the Walls.

The Pub

The City Arms has changed quite a bit since Victorian times, The entrances and room layouts have changed, and several memorable features have come and gone. Several pictures and explanations help to detail those changes.
